about

Singing Bridges Live @ Club Gloria, Helsinki 2004

My first ever live performance, playing bridges & electronics at Pixelache Festival Helsinki with Mari Keski-Korsu on live video, Lasse Kaikkonen on self-made electric kantele and Jussi Lehtipuu on cello.

THEME 2004: AUDIOVISUAL ARCHITECTURE
PixelACHE is an annual festival of electronic art, design and technology. The theme for this year is Audiovisual architecture, experimenting with the border between the digital domain and the physical world.

LANDSCAPE SAMPLING
Singing Bridges by Jodi Rose [AU] is a collection of recorded sounds of bridges from around the world. Every bridge has its own unique sound and these sounds are used as instruments in an audiovisual performance created by Jodi Rose in collaboration with Mari Keski-Korsu and Lasse Kaikkonen, who also assisted in recording the sounds of Matinkaari bridge in Finland.

Trip supported by ANAT Australian Network for Art and Technology.

lyrics

Singing Bridges performance at Club Gloria combines bridge recordings, video and musical improvisations. The original sound work is created using contact microphones to amplify and record the vibrations in the cables of stay cabled and suspension bridges. The bridge sounds are edited into a 30 minute composition, played with live manipulation and processing, and accompanied by improvisation from Lasse Kaikkonen on Kantele, Jussi Lehtipuu on Cello and video mixing by Mari Keski-Korsu. Club Gloria is a fantastic old cinema with red velvet balcony seats, a large stage and great dance floor. The performance is well received; afterwards I enjoy Shogun Kunitoko’s analogue synthesiser and electric organ concert and dancing to DJ Coolof in a happy melee of artists.
